I wanted to follow up on yesterday’s post that discussed the second key principle of winning a street fight, which is to hit hard.

As I mentioned, it takes a good bit of practice to learn how to hit hard from that distance of 18 to 24 inches.  It is critical that you learn how, since that is the distance where most fights begin.

However, suppose you are not in such proximity to your assailant just yet, but you know you are still in a dangerous situation.  Or, suppose your assailant is much larger than you.

What are your options?

Again, if you can’t just run away, then the ability to hit hard is crucial.  However, sometimes getting that first shot in with a strike to the head is not an option.

A great option than is a quick groin kick.  This takes a good bit of practice as well, but it’s an extremely effective tool if you are on the small size, or if there is enough distance between you and your attacker.

The key is to be able to deliver the kick with some stealth.  You don’t want your attacker to know its coming, so your ability to distract your attacker is key to getting in the shot, if it is indeed available.

A good kick to the groin can either end the fight altogether, allowing you to get out of dodge, or it can allow you to follow up with a barage of strikes to end it that way.

In the video below, I discuss how to distract your assailant to deliver a swift kick to the groin.
