One of the important principles in combatives and self protection is you need to learn how to hit hard. The quickest way to end an assault is to knock out your assailant.
Most people think the best way to do this is with their fists. Generally, this is correct. Striking your opponents jaw, or other vulnerable area with a hard object can get the job done most efficiently.
However, most people also don’t train often enough to learn how to punch properly. As a result, they may end up breaking a hand or wrist. That’s the last thing you need to happen if you are in a street fight.
With this in mind, most people should use the heel of the hand to strike, rather than the fist. It can be very effective, and less damaging to you.
