Well, it’s been a few weeks now, and my guess is most everyone is getting a little stir crazy. Whether you are a gym rat, study a martial art at a school, or train in combatives, you are stuck at home.
This means it is likely you don’t have a partner to train with, and that is difficult to replace.
However, not all all is lost. You can still train in a few different ways so you don’t lose your edge.
I am personally quite thankful for the fact that I just moved to a new home in January. With my new home, I have a garage which provided me the space to set up my home gym, including my heavy bag.
If you have some equipment at home, I hope you are making good use of it.
My focus as of late has been on strength training, so I’ve mainly been playing with the barbell. I also hit the heavy bag for a few minutes a couple days each week.
If you don’t have such equipment at home, you need to at least keep yourself moving…. pushups, ab work, squats, burpees, plyometrics, kung fu stances, etc, are all things you can do to keep moving and keep sharp.
If you don’t have a heavy bag or a Bob to hit, find something you can hit so you can continue your striking work. Learning how to hit hard is crucial to your self protection in case you find yourself in a bad situation.
In the case you don’t have any type of self defense training, I highly recommend getting started with the Self Defense Company’s online training. You will find a ton of excellent content there so you can train at home.
At some point, we’all be allowed out in the world again so we can interact with one another. It’s pretty incredible that this is going on globally, so that many of the world’s great instructors are unable to train their students in person.
But, we’ll get through this and come out the other side better than ever.
So, with that said, I’ll just live you with a couple of videos to help you stay in shape while you are locked up indoors!
