Over the last several months, we’ve seen protests turn into rioting and looting.  Some people were killed as a result.  Others were injured badly.

As usual, many of these incidents could’ve been avoided altogether, so I thought I’d reiterate some basic tenets of self protection.

First of all, your primary goal is to get back home to your family.

Most of the rioting has not been occurring in residential areas, but in downtown areas.  This is because the rioters are also interested in looting.

With this in mind, when you have a good idea that your business may be targeted, prepare for that, then stay the hell away.

One of the most tragic events we witnessed were people getting severely injured or killed while trying to protect their businesses.

In one case, a business owner in Dallas tried to fight back while wielding a machete.  The mob swarmed him, and eventually he was taken to the ground and stomped and kicked.

If I recall, he died some weeks later as a result of his injuries.

In other cases, people have simply gotten caught in the crosshairs when the rioters and looters came calling to certain neighborhoods.  They may have simply been in the neighborhood minding their own business when the bad actors arrived.

As soon as you sense that unusual activity is about to occur, you should first think of how you are going to escape the area.

If you are alone, or only with a couple other people, it makes no damn sense to try and make a stand when there is a mob.

Self defense has nothing to do with just kicking ass… it’s about self protection.

While our police are basically fighting with one arm tied behind their back, it is their duty to serve and protect, not yours.

Of course, if you do have training, and you witness an innocent person being attacked, that is a different story.  Then, you need to try and intervene, then get the hell out of Dodge.

When the mob shows up at your doorstep

When the mob shows up at your doorstep, and you are significantly outnumbered, do not try and confront like the folks did in St. Louis.

These days, we have no idea whether law enforcement will have our back our not… it depends on the location and the politicians in that area.

Therefore, if people simply trespass onto your property, put your family in the best place in your house where they can be protected, and stay quiet.

Don’t give the mob and excuse to try and break in.

If they do break in, then of course, all bets are off.  Hopefully, you have taken the necessary steps that I outlined in my previous post.

If you do not have the ability to protect your family and home, then you should at the very least have an escape route and plan in place.

The bottom line is this… you want to live another day.  Property is far less important than your life and the lives of your family.

Your survival and your family’s survival are the top priority.

Nobody wants to see their business, or way of life torn apart.  But, if you are dead, you can’t rebuild your business or home anyway.

So, when the mob shows up, don’t try to be a hero, unless you are left with no other choice.

Be aware and be smart.  You’ll live to fight another day, and that is all that matters.
